Deal Me In

Recently Lori taught me how to play Gin Rummy. I like it because it has enough skill over a number of hands to be a challenge. However, it is simple enough we can talk as we play.

Playing games is a great way to get a man to talk. It’s also a great way to get him to spend time with you.

If you don’t have a few games you play regularly with your husband, I suggest you work on getting some. Find out if he wants a serious challenge, mindless play, or something in between.

If you want to try something new, I suggest the Fluxx card games. These are interesting because the rules keep changing as you play. You can get a theme based on his interest, from Pirate Fluxx to Star Fluxx to Monty Python Fluxx. These play well with two, but can easily accommodate up to six players as young as age 8. Dominoes are another great choice. Video games are another option, if they are head to head and a round is fairly short. Lori have played a completive version of Tetris for over a decade!

~ Paul – I’m XY, and Lori has never had to do things to get me to talk (if you know how to get me to stop talking, she would like to know!).

My husband and I like to play first person computer games together (such as Myst, Skyrim, Portal) – he controls the mouse and I control the keyboard. This has led to frustrations as neither of us can read each other’s mind, but has also led to better communication skills as we learn to work together. With 2 small children we don’t get to play very often, but we treasure the time we do get to spend together in such a way.
