How Do Your Friends Affect Your Marriage?

I recently shared this truth with the men over on The Generous Husband:

You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” ~ Jim Rohn

This is true for both men and women, and it can be pretty scary.

How Do Your Friends Effect Your Marriage?

Imagine what would happen if you ditched your current best friends and started to hang with a group of women who were all recently divorced. You would hear a lot of negative things about men. Your new friends might be looking for faults in your husband and your marriage. If you expressed concerns about your husband or talked about problems in your marriage they would likely be less supportive than women in good marriages.

Now think about the friends you currently spend the most time with. Are they marriage positive? Do they support the idea of marriage? Do they suggest you give your husband the benefit of the doubt, or do they attack his every minor fault or questionable action?

    • @Andrew Budek-Schmeisser – Friends have a bit more sway with us, but the quote is about time, not friendship. How much time we spend with someone is certainly a powerful thing.
