Recently we asked men and women to rate their marriages and sex lives. The results were very similar to better-done studies.

The short version is men are happier than women with their marriages, and women are happier than men with their sex lives. Women overestimate men’s sexual happiness, and men overestimate women’s marital happiness. The good news is a little more than half of men and women said their marriage got better in the last year, while only 14% of men and 21% of women said it got worse.

There was a very interesting finding on the sexual front, and this one fits very well with larger, well-done studies. 

For the first three years of marriage, men rate their sex lives very highly, while women rate them much lower. In the 15 to 19 year range, women start rating their sex lives higher, and continue to rate them higher and higher for the rest of their marriage. Men also say sex gets better in middle age and beyond. For sex, the best is yet to be – especially for women!
