You may have noticed I tend towards minimalism. We’re not the hardcore three shirts, four pairs of pants type of minimalism, and we’ve never done the 100 Thing Challenge, but we certainly think that when it comes to things less is more.

We were well on our way to this before we did full-time RVing; the RVing just helped us along. For me, the reason for moving this way was a growing awareness of how much my stuff was costing me. Money to buy it, money to maintain it, money to get a bigger house to hold all of it. And the thing about money is the only way to get money is to spend your most valuable and more restricted resource: time. I was starting to see how much time my stuff was costing me, and I decided I wanted to do other things with my time. In short, I was tired of being a slave to my stuff.
I realise this seems like a difficult thing. Part of that is because minimalists who make the news are usually pretty radical about it. The reality is most of us have things in boxes we haven’t looked at in years. Some of us pay a hundred dollars or more a month for a storage unit that we fill with things we use once a year or less. Does that seem sane to you? Does spending your time to make money to keep doing that seem like a good plan to you? If you think about it and are happy with how things are, great. All I’m suggesting is you take a bit of time to really think about it.
