Years ago I had a boss who said, “If you didn’t send me an email, we didn’t talk about it.” Email was his preferred way of being informed of things, and it was how he kept track of what he had done and what needed to be done. If I told him about something or requested something and didn’t send an email, it was my fault if it didn’t get addressed. On the other hand, if I sent an email I knew it would be addressed in a timely manner.

How does your husband like to be informed about things, or have requests made of him? It might not be a matter of email vs written list vs verbal communication, it might be about when you tell him. For example, if you tell him the first hour after he gets home or while he’s watching TV, he’s not going to remember it and thus won’t act on it.

Figure out the best way to give him information and requests and do it that way. This goes beyond kindness, it’s a matter of practicality.
