The question was asked on Quora “What secret thing do you do when your spouse/partner makes you angry?“

My answer was “I do something nice for her. Or at least that is what I try to do. I don’t always manage it, but I’m getting better.“

I’ve been working at this for most of my marriage. I still blow it from time to time, but I manage it more often than not. I find doing something nice for my wife makes me feel better about her and that’s a good thing. It also makes her feel better and that’s a good thing.

Of course, doing this is difficult and sometimes costly. And I suppose in some relationships it might be abused by the other spouse. But unless your husband is really selfish, doing good to him when he’s rude or nasty to you will benefit your marriage.
