What You Want vs What You Think You Deserve

Sometimes we have a clash between what we want and what we think we deserve.

This is particularly a problem for Christians who were raised in the “All you deserve is hell, and you should be glad God puts up with you” mentality.

What You Want vs What You Think You Deserve

Giving some more than they think they deserve is difficult because it’s an uphill effort. You want it, but you don’t feel you deserve it, so you fight it. And if you get it, you may not show appreciation because of your guilt. If your husband isn’t giving you things you say you want but feel you don’t deserve, don’t blame him; deal with you!

This is not strictly a woman thing, but I think our society has made it more common for women. Women aren’t exactly second class citizens any more, but they aren’t fully first class either. There are still plenty of hints you don’t deserve as much as your husband, or that you should be the one to sacrifice 95% of the time.

God says to love others as we love ourselves. If we don’t see ourselves as deserving, then we don’t see others as deserving either.

~ Paul – I’m XY, and my Lori deserves all manner of good stuff!
