Time To Heal

When Lori and I got married, she has some significant wounds. (So did I, but I didn’t realise it.) I tried to be reasonable and understanding as she worked on those wounds.

Time To Heal

What made it relatively easy for me to give her time to heal was that I always felt she was both working at it and making progress. It didn’t happen as fast as either of us would have liked, but I always felt getting healed was a high priority for her.

On the other hand, I’ve talked to men who say their wife has walked in the same brokenness for years and years without any apparent effort to get healing. After a while why they were broken stopped mattering; all that mattered was they were unwilling to get it fixed.

We all have wounds, it’s a given. Some of the wounds are because of what others did to us, some are self-inflicted. What matters is that we are dedicated to dealing with our wounds and becoming healthy. Most men will give a woman time to heal if they think she’s working on it. If they feel she’s not serious about it, then it becomes a problem.

The other thing is working on it must be accompanied by signs of progress. Ultimately it’s actions, not words, that matter.
