Are You Too Busy To Be A Wife?

This is a double down on Monday’s post. It’s also a lot harder than I usually hit here. The reason for this is I think this is a major cause of bad marriages and divorces.

I’m convinced most marriages are a shadow of what God intended because at least one and usually both spouses are far too busy to be the husband or wife God wants them to be.

You are not too busy, it is a matter of priorities - handwriting on a napkin with a cup of espresso coffee

If you get this wrong, nothing else really matters. You can’t fix a lack of time together with gifts, occasional acts of service, kind words, great vacation once a year, fantastic sex, or anything else. Nothing makes up for not spending time together and nothing fixes the hurt felt if your spouse wants more time with you.

I know I’m yelling into the wind on this. Our culture tells us being busy means we’re important. If you’re not tired, stressed, and short on time the world says you’re lazy. If you give your life and your marriage the time God intends the odds are many in the church will question your priorities. Doing it God’s way is not seen as good, sane, or even possible. We live beyond our means, resulting in having to work far too many hours. We try to do it all, resulting in not doing most of it well. We lie to ourselves about our abilities and limits. And those of us trying to follow Jesus often think we’re doing God’s will in all of this.

If you care about your marriage, or your kids, or your health, I beg you to take some time to think through your life. Is it sane? Is it allowing you to do the things God calls us to do? Is it building a strong family? And most importantly, is it God’s will?
