Your 2020 Marriage

How would you rate your marriage in 2019? What about your hubby, how would he rate it?

Even if both ratings are good, odds are you both have things you would like to see changed to make it even better.

Couple looking to 2020

The thing about marriage is that it’s a partnership. So while you can often influence change, you can’t force it. Real change requires a common goal. And having a common goal requires good communication.

So:

  1. Set a time to talk about what you would like your marriage to look like next year.
  2. Do some thinking and praying about it before you talk.
  3. Start by both of you sharing what you liked about your marriage in 2019.
  4. Then share what you didn’t like. Don’t get angry or accusatory, just share the facts.
  5. Take turns talking about the changes you’d like next year. It would be a good idea to take notes here.
  6. Hug and walk away for at least a day so you can each think and pray.
  7. When you talk again, work on setting goals for your marriage next year. Discuss what has to happen for those changes to occur.
  8. Check back every 3 months. How’s it going? Be fast to praise any hint of positive change. Do you need to change your goals? Do you need something you didn’t foresee to accomplish the goals?
