I see a lot of unhappy women out there. This is especially true for mothers of young children. It’s tempting to blame their unhappiness on their situation, but as I told the men over on TGH last year, I am increasingly convinced that happiness is a choice. 

Why does it seem women are worse off on this than men? I think it’s because women are taught to lean on, follow, depend on, and in some cases live for their husband. And while some of that can be found to some degree in the Scriptures, how I see it playing out in many marriages is at best a gross caricature of what God says.

I’m not suggesting we should worship happiness, but I do think as a loving Father God cares about our happiness. No parent wants their children to miserable and no parent is unaffected by their children being unhappy. Why would we think God is okay with such things or even wants them?
