Give Experiences Instead

I’ve seen a number of studies that say for long-term happiness, experiences beat possessions. Even better, research shows that money spent on joint experiences builds relations faster and better than money spent on things. (See link at the bottom)

So a nice meal out or a vacation do way do more for your happiness and the health of your relationship than a new whatever.

Gift in gold paper

If we apply that to gifts, then giving an experience is better than giving an item. Of course, that’s rather tricky in the age of Covid; but that probably makes it even more important. It will take more thinking, but you can still do it.

To help you give experiences, we have some gift coupons you can modify and print. If you go this route, think about getting creative. For example, give a wild card coupon that can be redeemed for the same things as a specific coupon. This makes it better for hubby and it gives you an idea of what he most enjoys. Feel free to put wise restrictions on coupons. That could be “one coupon a week” or “this item requires 4 days advance notice”. Making it easy on you means you can fulfil the coupons.

And yes, sex counts as an experience. Most husbands would be thrilled to get coupons for sex, but try to give more than just that.

Speaking of giving, donations for our year-end giving fell off over the weekend. If you can help, see below!
