I’ve had a number of men tell me that “Chick Flicks” are porn for women. And they have a point, but not because of any sex that is shown or implied.

The real harm done by porn is that it shows an unreal reality no woman is able, much less willing, to live. It leads to men expecting things that are neither desirable nor enjoyable for women and the men then get upset when they are “denied” these things.

A lot of romantic comedies do the same thing with relationships, showing an unreal reality most men can’t and/or won’t live out. This leads to women expecting things that are neither desirable nor enjoyable for men and they may get upset when they are “denied” these things.

Before you dismiss me as being on the men’s side on this, recall that a couple of days ago I told men to do Valentine’s Day no matter how they feel about it. I’m all about stretching to give your spouse what they desire, but creating unfulfillable desires by watching fantasies is wrong and unloving. This is true for both sexual and romantic fantasies that don’t line up with real life.

And if you’re thinking that watching Chick Flicks doesn’t change how you think and what you expect from your hubby, consider what you would think if he told you watching porn does not change how he thinks or what he expects from you.
