I grew up with a mother who didn’t like imperfection and took her children’s imperfection as a stain on her reputation. It was not a fun experience. My dad seemed to hold his own okay, but I suspect he got hurt by this too.

The truth is we’re all imperfect and no matter how much we try not to be, we will always be imperfect. So making it known that imperfect is okay is an exceptionally loving thing to do.
BTW, some of what you and your husband see as imperfection in each other is really gender-based differences. You may never know what things might be that way for him, but giving him permission to be imperfect means it doesn’t matter.
