Being Embarrassed By Your Husband

I’ve heard plenty of women talk about being embarrassed by their husband. Perhaps he doesn’t act grown up enough for her at times. Or he jokes around too much. Or he talks way too much about sports, fishing, or snowmobiling. (Around here there are guys who live for enough snow to get the snowmobile going!)

The what is not important. The issue is he’s not doing or being as she thinks he should. She wants him to behave in a certain way and she is embarrassed when he does not. The embarrassment is a result of her fear that others will think badly of him or more likely will think badly about her.

I realise that shaming a woman for what her husband does is a thing. I don’t think it’s as common as it once was, but it still happens. If some woman does this to you, tell her to mind her own business. Or better yet tell her you love your husband and you know he is a grown man capable of making his own choices. (Or if you really want to have fun, say he’s so good in bed you don’t care what he does!) Basically, refuse to play the game with other women and refuse to pass their peer pressure on to hubby.

The real issue here is that men and women are different. They have different goals, fears, dreams, and desires. Men tend to be more about grabbing life by the gonads and going for it. This is not wrong and it is not immature; this is how God made men. Trying to control or shame him into being different is not only saying he is wrong, it’s saying God is wrong.

Just keep saying “Just different, not wrong.
