Different Speed, Not Wrong

I’m an energetic guy. Actually manic might be more accurate, but let’s go with energetic. I’m also both a morning lark and a night owl. (Yes, my wife covets your prayers.)

Happy man celebrating

When we first got married I think I expected Lori to keep up with me. I have long since figured out that she is closer to normal than I am and she is in no way lazy. But while I long ago stopped expecting her to keep up, I don’t think I verbalised that until recently. As my wife is good at setting sane boundaries she was not killing herself to keep up, but it really blessed her to hear that I didn’t expect it.

In most marriages, one person has more energy. It might be a bit more or it might be a massive difference. This is how God made us and it’s not wrong. It’s also not something we can change without doing harm to ourselves.

If you’re the more energetic spouse, tell hubby you know this and tell him you don’t expect him to keep up with you. If hubby is the more energetic one, set reasonable limits, and mention the energy level difference to him.

~ Paul – I’m XY, and my wife works too hard, but not because she is trying to keep up with me.
