Sprinter vs Marathon Runner

On Monday I talked about my energy level. While I generally have more energy than Lori, I am still subject to a basic male/female difference. I am a sprinter, she is a marathon runner.

Stacked plastic bags of mulch and flowers in rain.

I learned about this when Lori and I worked together doing landscape a couple of decades ago. I was much stronger and could do things she could not do. But by the end of a long hard day, I was doing good to get myself into the truck. Lori on the other hand had a much more consistent amount of energy. Sure she was tired at the end of the day, but she was often able to do things I was not because she was not as spent as I was. Some of this is because I did the heavy lifting (literally!) but it’s also a function of how our bodies are built and function.

So when we had to put down nearly 100 bags of mulch, I hauled them from the truck to where they would be used. We both worked on spreading it and when we got done she picked up the empty bags because she could do it much faster than I could at that point.

If your hubby works a physical job, his sitting in a chair and doing nothing when he gets home is for good reason. Yes, you can work all day and still be going, but you can’t match his raw strength. Learn to help each other with your different abilities.
