Fifty Years of Wisdom In 3 Words

We had friends up from Texas last month, so we did some tourist things. Among those was a boat trip around Lake Coeur d’Alene in Idaho. As we were getting back to the dock the captain announced some special occasions, including a couple celebrating their 50-year anniversary.

As we lined up to disembark, I went up to the couple, explained what I do, and asked their secret to a good marriage.

Without a pause, the wife said “Forgive and forget”. The husband smiled his agreement.

Yeah, it’s that simple. There are of course extreme situations that call for more, but most marriages can do very well if both spouses learn to forgive and forget.
