I’ve mentioned my polycythemia vera (PV) here before. PV can seriously limit and even kill if not found early. But it has no symptoms until it’s started to do damage. My PV was found because I decided it was time to get an annual physical – something I’d not done in about ten years at that time. It was a choice that has vastly improved the rest of my life and made the rest of my life a much longer time!
Women are generally better at seeing doctors than men, but if you haven’t had a check-up in the last year, would you please do that? It could save your life, or make it longer, or make it better.

As for your hubby – yeah, sorry about that. I think a lot of men see going to the doctor as a sign of being weak. “Real men” only see doctors when something falls off! Or when they fall down from something like a stroke or heart attack. There may also be the desire to avoid being told to eat rabbit food and give up all the things he enjoys.
Ask him to do it for you. Tell him you want to have him around for years to come and you want him to be healthy enough to enjoy the time. If you have to bribe him, I’d say it’s worth it. And a bribe will work better than anger, shame, or nagging.
~ Paul – I’m XY, and I should start National Annual Physical, Steak, and the Sex of Your Choice Day.
