Society tells us who to be and, to me, it seems worse for women than for men. It started long before you have any idea who you were. Sometimes it’s direct, often it’s hidden behind a parent’s choice of words or subtle approval and disapproval. As you get older your group of friends created all manner of expectations. You lived in a Matrix-like world defined by the words and attitudes of those around you.

The problem is that the world has a narrow view of who and what you can be and it’s far narrow than who God says you can be. A big part of leaving the Matrix is believing what God says about you. Not what some church or pastor has told you God says about you, but what the Word of God actually says.
Of course, what I’m suggesting here is radical for many women and dangerous for some. I get that – as much as a man can. It’s certainly easier and possibly safer to just keep going along and getting along. But that means never being the woman God called you to be and that is tragic for you and for those who you could touch.
Hopefully, your husband is in favour of you becoming who God intended you to be. That won’t make it easy, but it sure makes it less difficult. If he’s not all for that, it will limit you some, but you can still learn and grow and pray for his eyes to be opened.
~ Paul – I’m XY, and I hate how words can become cages.
