Spending time on Quora regularly reminds me how obsessed most men are with the size of their penis. Recently there was a question that said something along the lines of “Is living even worthwhile if you have a small penis?” A number of guys said no, it’s not, and one fellow attacked those who said it wasn’t that bad as being insensitive to his reality.

Wow.

I realise many women have somewhat similar feelings about their breasts, but I don’t think it’s nearly as bad. If it were, virtually every woman in the world would have been augmented to the point of being dangerously top-heavy. 

Why are men so hung up on this? I think penis size has become a proxy for being manly. “Real men have big dicks” – or something like that. Making it even worse is the fact that most men are wrong about how big the average penis is, thinking it’s larger than six inches. In truth, multiple well-done studies have put the average at just 5.1 inches.

Before I started working on this post I thought I was immune to this. But in looking for a picture to go with the post I saw a lot of images of women laughing about a guy’s small size. Surprisingly, I felt offended and even a bit angry about this. I guess it’s a deep-rooted male fear.

I don’t know if you can do much about this, but you can at least be aware and understanding.
