It Sounded Like A Request For Help To Him

Often when women talk to their husband about a problem they get frustrated he won’t stop trying to fix it. They just want him to listen or at least listen before they move into problem-solving mode.

I have noticed that when Lori shares a problem with me I hear it as a call for help. I’m not saying that is what she is doing, but it’s how I hear it. That is about the difference in how men and women communicate and it’s not her fault. Neither is it my fault.

If you want him to just listen, then you should tell him that is what you want before you share. It may still be difficult for him, but at least he knows what you want and he can work on doing that.

Along these lines, if hubby shares a problem with you he may be asking for your help but you don’t hear that. I wonder if some men stop sharing problems because they never get the response they want. If you’re not sure, ask if he wants feedback or to brainstorm.
