Got Preferences?

Preferences are an interesting marriage issue. Some folks have problems because one of them has a lot of strongly held preferences. Others have problems because one has virtually no preferences or doesn’t express their preferences.

You may wonder how not expressing preferences could be a problem. Here’s the thing, decent people want to do things for their spouse and if your husband has no idea what you want or enjoy he can’t do things for you.

The other issue is many folks who don’t seem to have preferences are really afraid to have or express them because of their past. This isn’t always the case, but it’s common enough it’s always a valid concern. Being afraid to have or express preference is a problem and sooner or later it’s going to hurt a marriage.

So if you express strong preferences all the time, you might want to back off a bit. If you rarely or never express preferences, ask yourself if that is really your personality or something from your past you should work on.
