I forget where I saw it, but someone wrote “afternoon sex is the price of growing old“. In my mind, afternoon sex among older couples might be more about wisdom.

I think most folks have sex at bedtime because it’s a habit. I mean yeah, you’re already in bed and undressed, and you don’t have to get up or redress afterwards. But having sex when you’re tired isn’t ideal. What’s more, you might be emotionally tired or stressed. Or both. And it sure increases the chance of him falling asleep right after he comes. Sex before bed is probably the worst possible time of day if you want good sex!

What time of the day do you think would be the best for sex? Have you ever thought it through?

Morning could be good if you’re both morning people and have days when you don’t have to hit the floor running. Of course, if you have kids it’s not going to work out so well. The afternoon has a lot going for it, but how often are you both home in the afternoon, much less alone together? What about the early evening? Have sex before dinner, for example.

One woman told us that on Sunday morning her husband dropped the kids at Sunday School and then came home and they had sex before going to church. She said it was the best sex of the week. Other couples have a babysitter take the kids to the pool or a movie so they can have the house to themselves for the afternoon or evening. Others get a babysitter and go to a hotel.

Bedtime is easy, but is it best? Would you enjoy sex more if you sometimes did it at a different time? Is it worth trying a few things? It’s not an easy change, but it might be one you will be glad you made!
