Your Husband Is Surrounded By Half Naked Women

A couple of weeks ago I did the sermon at church. As I was doing sermon prep, I was on a website that shows Bible verses in dozens of versions along with Greek and Hebrew lexicons and various commentaries. As I scrolled down the page, there was an ad for lingerie – with a woman in said product standing there inviting me to lust.

I understand the website didn’t intend to show me that ad. They have sold space to a company that shows the ad they think a user is most likely to click on. Given how much I search about sex, I understand why I got that ad. Sadly the ad company doesn’t allow its customers to opt out of any categories. So if they want to make money, to pay the bills, they have to accept some content they don’t want. This is why our websites will never use such companies!

I’m pretty immune to this kind of stuff. As soon as it registers, I scroll past or turn off images. But this event reminded me that we are swimming in a world that is obsessed with sex. A lot of folks want to use sex to sell things to me and plenty of women walking around in public are willing to show more of their bodies than I want to see. Eye bouncing and keeping my mind on my wife keeps me out of trouble, but the reality is temptations are being forced on me left and right.

This is in no way to excuse any man for choosing to give in to temptation. What I want you to understand is that the temptation is far more common than you realise, because as a woman you’re not as sensitive to it and don’t realise how bad it is. Of course, he should turn away both his eyes and his mind. But do you understand how often he has to do that and how exhausting it can be at times? The man who is successfully running from temptation is doing something amazing and he should be praised for it. If he slips, I’m not asking you to ignore it, but a bit of compassion on your part might have better results than just getting angry.

Beyond your hubby, if you have sons they are also being bombarded with this. And they are less prepared to deal with it because their brains are less developed and it’s far more difficult for them to do what they should. They also have a sex drive you can’t imagine. It’s like being doused in gasoline and walking through a crowd of folks waving lighters. If you have sons, tell them you’re sorry it’s so difficult and encourage them that resisting temptation is the right thing to do and will make their future marriages much better.
