Lori and I had a very busy holiday season this year. A lot of good stuff with folk we love and we’re not sorry we did any of it, but we were spent when we got home Sunday from our last commitment. So Monday we stayed home and avoided people. On Wednesday we will take our Sabbath and will hide if anyone comes by.

Sometimes you need a break and if you don’t get it when you need it that will cost you, those around you, and your marriage. The “press on regardless” idea some of us were taught growing up is garbage. It’s neither sane nor of God. Jesus walked away from folks and took time off. And that whole day of rest thing? That was God’s idea.

If you can’t get a break when you need it, you’re hurting yourself and those around you. It’s not admirable, it’s wrong. And if your husband is part of the problem, then he’s wrong.

I suspect some of you can’t hear this because it would put you in a horrible place. You’ve built or agreed to a life that’s not sane and moving to one that is would be extremely disruptive. When I’ve talked about this in the past there were comments explaining why this is not possible. What they are really saying is it’s not possible without barbequing a herd of sacred cows.

Yeah, this is pushier and more aggressive than I usually post. I do it because I care about you. I want to you have a better life and marriage. I want you to live longer and enjoy your time on earth more. And honestly, I’m a bit like the former alcoholic preaching about giving up drinking here because I did way too much for a long time. I got smart before it killed me, but I can see how it hurt some friendships and limited my marriage and who I was as a father.

Calling it a success! After adding the donations that came in on Saturday, we are $255.20 (or 1.7%) short of our goal. Since we will have checks trail in for almost a week, I think we can call it a success. A huge thanks to all!
