So I recently read Nipple erection influences perceptions of women’s intelligence, morality, and sexuality. Before you get all upset at men, please know women were just as bad. As study author Rebecca Burch put it, “In sum, both men and women sexually objectify women with nipple erection, and while men want to be involved with them, women want to avoid them.” 

Now, I know that nipple erection is not something one can control. What’s more, a woman can be showing erect nipples and not even know it. I assume all the women in the study knew this, as did some of the men. And yet they passed judgment all the same.

The sad truth is we are judged in all kinds of unfair ways, and for women these things are all too often sexual. Being rightly upset about that is natural, but it doesn’t fix or change anything. You can work to avoid giving others cause to unfairly judge you, or you can refuse to play and pay the consequences.

Rebecca Burch went on to say that the major finding of the study was that men and women perceive nipple erection “as a sign of increased sexuality” and because of that “make assumptions about that woman’s behavior and interests.” She went on to say people “then make decisions about how they will treat her.” That last bit is more than a little scary. I’d suggest it’s one of those ugly truths your teenage daughters need to be taught. And of course you need to teach your sons that nipples get erect for all kinds of reasons, and none of them are a reason to treat a young lady badly or expect anything from her.

On the nicer marriage side of this, you can use this knowledge to thrill and seduce your husband if you like. It’s a superpower!
