So we got a blessing that came with a price tag. Our new neighbour had a lot of logs from clearing a place for their home. The trees were not properly cleaned or stacked, and could only be sold for chipping. It was theoretically worth $1,500, but they can’t find anyone willing to haul them to the mill. A few months ago, my son mentioned we would take anything they could not sell if they just wanted it gone.
The pile sits where they want to put down a foundation before the ground is covered in snow. So last Thursday the neighbour said we could have it if it was all gone by Monday morning.

So yeah, that’s a huge blessing. It’s year’s worth of fire wood, plus some we can run on our bandsaw mill for lumber. My breakfast room and deck will come from that stack. But it was also a lot of work and a short deadline.
So Friday I put in a full day, and crawled home for dinner. As I sat on the couch after diner, exhausted and sore, I felt great. There is something about ridiculously hard physical labour that makes a man feel good about himself. There is a deep satisfaction, like you have done what you were created to do.
If you have ever wondered how or why your husband will work till he drops, this might help you understand. No one wants to do it day in and day out, but doing it once in a while is a good thing.
