Tips for a Healthy Sex Life After Fifty

Last year I had three friends, all over fifty years of age, talk to me about their sex lives.

The last one, chronologically, said “Paul, I am so blessed my wife still wants and enjoys sex”. He said it this way because he has talked to enough men his age to know he’s in the minority.

The phrase" Is a sexless marriage normal?" on a sign in woman's hand.

My other two friends are not as blessed. One said his wife saw menopause as her excuse to stop having sex. In every and any form. The other fellow had some medical issues a couple of years ago that prevented them from having sex for a while. He could do it now, but when he suggested it, she told him there were other things he needed to work on before there would be any sex. A year down the road, he has figured out she will always find something else he needs to work on before they resume sex.

Both of these women are Christians, and not in name only. They love the Lord, and they love their husbands. But they don’t love sex, and they’re happy to be done with it. From what I can tell, sex was never great for them. I suspect they just went along most of the time. It probably wasn’t horrible, and there were certainly orgasms along the way, but that’s not enough for most women.

If you want your husband to be blessed with a wife that still wants and enjoys sex when he’s over fifty, and/or you want to be enjoying it yourself past that age, be proactive about it now. Don’t just go along. Don’t put up with infrequent or empty orgasms. Let hubby know sex is not horrible now, but it’s not good enough to keep doing it for the rest of your lives.

BTW, the secret of couples who keep having sex is that they keep having sex. Each spouse makes sex a priority for themself, for their spouse, and most importantly for their marriage.
