I’ve talked recently on both blogs about sacrificing for our spouse, and how the word sacrifice may be an obstacle. So now let’s apply that to sex.
I’ve seen plenty of folks tell women they need to sacrifice sexually for their husband. I’ve even hinted at it myself. I can support that call biblically, but it still sounds bad to me. I suspect most women dislike the sound of it, and I can tell you most men feel the same way.
I don’t want my wife to see sex as a sacrifice, a project she dislikes that she feels she has to do. Back when sex was a problem area for us, I declined her offer a few times when I felt that is where she was. I’m sure high drive wives have done the same thing.

I do suspect some low drive men and women play up the “if I must” bit to try to get out of sex. If you’re doing that, please stop. It’s dishonest, manipulative, and harmful. And if your husband does that to you, you can tell him what I said applies to men too.
Beyond that, I suggest we stop seeing meeting our spouse’s wants and needs as burdensome. I mean, yeah, something it costs to do what they need. But that’s what love does, and if we believe the Bible, we’re supposed to be happy to do things for those we love.
The next time hubby wants sex, and you don’t, tell him you would be happy to do something for him. Even better, don’t wait for him to ask; offer something you’re up to because you know he needs it, and you love him.
