This is a follow up on Monday’s What Will You Regret When You’re Dying? post. In that post, I talked about women setting aside their goals, desires, and dreams. Rather than living a life true to who God made them to be, they live the life others expect them to live.
Please notice the “who God made them to be” part of that sentence, it’s important! God intends us all to serve in various ways, but He didn’t intend any of us to abandon the rest of who He made us just to serve.

God gave you dreams. He gave you things to aspire to. Some of those are very much related to your family, others less so. Your responsibilities can limit or delay your dreams at times, but if that happens all the time something is out of balance. Finding the balance in this can be especially difficult for women. Being a mother means a season of setting aside many of your dreams. Being a woman means some men think your dreams are unimportant or come after men’s dreams. Hopefully, your husband knows better and is an advocate for your dreams. If this is not the case, you will have to make sure he and others don’t run you over.
Part of why I bring this up is I have seen way too many women ditch their marriage when they hit middle age and their kids are grown or almost grown. They’ve had enough of always being the one to give up their dreams, and they won’t take it any more. All too often they feel the only way to change things is to start over. Seen from this perspective learning to live your dreams isn’t selfish. You can’t be who God meant you to be if you sacrifice all your dreams, and you can’t be the wife your husband needs either.
